My Dad's Big Little Book CollectionMy dad collected Big Little Books as a child in the 1930's and 1940's and he still has his Big Little Book Collection to this day.
I was over at my mom and dad's house recently and I took some pictures of my dad's Big Little Book collection so I thought I would share them with you.
My dad's basement is a bit like a museum, filled with all sorts of odds and ends. Of course the item of interest as far as this website is concerned is my dad's Big Little Books Collection. Below is a picture of how the collection is kept. The boxes are lettered from A to G and are filled with vintage Big Little Books.
There are about 250 Big Little Books in those boxes. One interesting thing to note about the picture above is the two yellow GI Joe Indy Cars hanging from the rafters. Those were me and my brothers from when we were kids, I am guessing they are worth several hundred dollars each by now.
Here is a shot of my dad holding one of His Big Little Books.
My dad's Big Little Books collection is interesting because it's an organic collection in that these were actually the books he bought and read as a child. He didn't collect these later in life by purchasing them from antique shops or collectors. Many of the books have his name written on the inside cover in messy "kid style" handwriting which is very special to me.
The next series of photos are of the collection laid out on my dad's washer machine. I think there is a picture of every book in the collection although I didn't take these particular images so I am not completely sure if it's an exhaustive record.
If any of you see anything of particular interest in the photos below send me an email and tell me what you think. Otherwise, I just wanted to share with you the Big Little Book collection that I have always treasured and I hope you get some enjoyment out of it as well.
I think there might be three or four books in that collection from the mid-1960's which were probably purchased for me and my brother when we were growing up such as: one of the Popeye books, one of the Donald Duck Books, Bonanza, and Aquaman. Other than that, I believe they were all purchased by my dad when he was a kid. The books are in a wide range of conditions, some better than others but all of them are gems to me.
Big Little Books are a neat slice of American history and I am very lucky to have access to such a neat collection.
